As you probably already know, Google Meet is one of the many platforms that allows you to hold online meetings and conferences. It is a free platform that on its own does not integrate channels that allow remote simultaneous interpreting (or remote simultaneous translation). But by combining a few tricks, it is possible to hold multilingual events with remote simultaneous interpreting through Google Meet. Below, you will find out how you can set up Google Meet to integrate interpreting channels.
1. Features of Google Meet
As you probably already know, Google Meet is a free platform created to hold meetings of up to 250 participants with up to 100,000 viewers. Like many others, it offers a wide variety of options:
- Unlimited number of meetings
- Screen sharing
- Access meetings via mobile devices
- Record meetings
- Display instant captions during meetings (only in English)
- Adjust screen layout and settings
- Exchange messages with participants
To work with Google Meet, you only need to have Google Chrome or Firefox browsers (from version 60) and a stable Internet connection.
2. How Google Meet works
How Google Meet operates for individuals or small businesses is very simple. You only need to have a Google account or create one if you don't have it. Once you have logged in through your computer or mobile device, you can create a video call. By clicking on the dots located at the top right of the screen, the Google Meet option will appear. Click on it and schedule a new meeting.
You can schedule an instant meeting, a meeting for later or an event in Google Calendar. Once the meeting starts, you will be able to see all the participants and talk to them.
Large companies and even some SMEs work with Google Workspace. It is a cloud-based Google application that includes modern collaboration tools that foster teamwork among members working in different locations. Through this application, workers can also create their own video conferences with colleagues and clients.
3. Integration of Google Meet with Qonda
If, despite everything, you need to hold multilingual conferences, meetings or webinars, you will have to resort to another programme. Or not? The answer is simple: NO. It is possible to hold multilingual events through Google Meet.
You are now probably wondering, “How?” The answer is... with Qonda. Do you remember the previous blog where I talked about this new remote simultaneous interpreting platform? Well, this platform can be easily integrated with Google Meet and voilà: you can now organise your multilingual events through your favourite platform without any worries at all.
4. Advantages:
With the integration of Qonda into Google Meet, you can continue organising your events through the latter without having to give up anything.
This way, you can benefit from the multiple advantages offered by both Google Meet and Qonda. These include very interesting features like interpreter handover, unlimited booths so you can broadcast your event in any language, the possibility of relay interpreting, and much more.
Of course, with the integration of two platforms, you will be required to use two programmes, as you must be connected to a second platform that transmits the remote interpreting. This may cause some inconvenience for those users who are not tech-savvy, but it will allow you to continue working with your favourite platform regardless of the type of meeting.
5. Conclusion
